My final year project at university was to create a Maya plugin which created environmentally affected L-systems. Renderman grass generator
This tool was developed so that I could implement and improve my vector maths and matrices as well as a few other formulas. The tool was coded using python. Geometry in Maya is analysed and a .rib file is created with grass distributed on the surface. Texture maps can control the distribution and relative grass height. |

Setting up Maya API for VS2010
Setting up visual studios for Maya can be a bit of a pain. I found a few other tutorials online that suggest how to set it up but I could not get them working for me. This setup does work on my computer but I can't guarantee it will work on yours. |
